Beach Stones & Seascapes
The Beach Stones series of paintings are formative and influential works in my painting career, completing my first in 1975. In art school, I studied photo-realistic painting to compliment my abilities as a photographer. I am not interested in simply reproducing photographs mechanically, and seek to add additional color, gesture, and spirit to the subject. Every beach stone contains a personality to be revealed upon closer contemplation. Over 70 individual faces may be found within the stones of "Horseshoe Crab on the Rocks." The beach stone paintings are based on photographs I shot at Crane Neck Point, on Long Island's North Shore.
